Brigil initiates its work for LE COLUMBIA !

December 02, 2019

The company will invest a minimum of 50 million dollars towards this Apogee Series luxurious building, to harmonize the urban community of the Hull sector. Active retirees will gather and thrive in a faubourg where businesses, restaurants, artisans and entrepreneurs will blend nicely.

Brigil will first and foremost protect the heritage site by preserving Columbia Farm, built in 1835, and a true remnant that expresses the entrepreneurial vigour of Philemon Wright, founder of the Hull township. This sine qua non condition truly matters to Brigil’s president, Gilles Desjardins, since purchasing the land in 2006.

« I promised that LE COLUMBIA would reflect the past and the present, by reflecting the legendary site that is Columbia Farm. For me, it’s essential that this project reflects the historical character it deserves”, adds Gilles Desjardins. “It’s at the core of our values at Brigil and our duty towards the past”.

By adding the launch of the project to the acquisition of Village Cartier on March 1st of last year, Brigil underlines its determination to contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of Gatineau. The 245 new units at Le Columbia will add to the multiple residential projects on the other side of St-Joseph Blvd. on the immense site of Village Cartier, to help answer the densification needs of Gatineau, in line with its medium- and long-term development plan.

LE COLUMBIA is only a few minutes from Ottawa, near bicycle trails and a short walking distance from les Galeries de Hull, pharmacies, the Hull Hospital, grocery stores, many restaurants and Lac-Leamy Casino. Residents will have access to a shared community vehicle service for their transportation needs.

Excavation in January 2020

The work initiated this week focuses on the mobilisation and preparation of the site. Excavation will begin the second week of January and will continue until March, notably to build an interior four-storey parking lot.

Brigil will reveal its plans to the media and the community early next year during an event to celebrate this important new step.
